RPS confirms commitment to health & safety with BS18001
Date: 15th April 2010
Building services design engineers and acoustic consultancy RPS has achieved certification to the established health & safety standard BS 18001:2007 with BM TRADA Certification Ltd, at all five locations, Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, and Newcastle upon Tyne.
RPS already holds ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certification with BM TRADA and, said Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Manager Christine Keay, ‘BS 18001:2007 has been successfully integrated into our existing Quality and Environmental Management System’.
Mrs Keay added, ‘We have already noticed several benefits, not least increased productivity through greater efficiency. Staff morale, too, has increased and staff are more likely to be retained because we have made such a firm commitment to their welfare and safety.’
Companies who undertake certification to the health & safety standard, she believes, have like RPS given a great deal of thought to their processes and how to maintain a safe environment. She said, ‘It has certainly given us an even greater awareness of workplace hazards and risks and it has helped us to define roles and responsibilities. Clients benefit too from the improved consistency and efficiency in our approach that dedication to health & safety can demonstrate.’
