Building Engineering Services Competence Accreditation (BESCA) is the building service industry’s Competent Persons Scheme for the notification of commercial and domestic heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) work under the new 2006 Building Regulations for England and Wales.
The scheme covers Parts F (ventilation), G (plumbing), J (heating) and L1 and L2 (energy efficiency) of the Building Regulations and allows registered companies to self-certify their work.
BM TRADA Certification carries out all of the inspection audits on behalf of BESCA to verify that business systems and technical competence are sufficient to meet the self-certification standards required by the Building Regulations. Commercial and business systems appropriate to the size and complexity of the business are assessed, together with an evaluation of technical competence whereby the company must demonstrate compliance with statutory and technical standards.
The BESCA Competent Persons Scheme offers companies a quick, easy to use and an extremely cost-effective alternative to the existing process of local authority building control inspection and helps to prevent rogue traders from operating within the sector.
