Liverpool host Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon in the second round of English Premier League fixtures with both sides looking to pick up their first victory of the season. Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw away at Watford on the opening weekend, whilst Crystal Palace were humbled 3-0 by newly promoted Huddersfield Town at home. Both managers faced criticism for their team’s performances and they will be looking to make amends this time around in a fixture that has been high on drama in the past few seasons.
Jurgen Klopp will have been delighted to have picked up a 2-1 away victory in their Champions League Playoff fixture against TSG Hoffenheim on Tuesday night and he will be hoping that his team can carry some of that confidence through to Saturday. Liverpool looked shaky at the back against Hoffenheim and surely Klopp will take Alberto Moreno out of the firing line after two less than impressive performances. New signing Andy Robertson has yet to make a match day squad after his £10m move from Hull City, but he could come into the starting line up this weekend along with James Milner, who replaced Jordan Henderson on the hour mark against Hoffenheim. Trent Alexander-Arnold will continue at right back in the absence of Nathaniel Clyne and the local boy has impressed so far this season and scored a wonderful free kick to give Liverpool the lead on Tuesday night. Crystal Palace were extremely poor against Huddersfield Town last weekend and new manager Frank de Boer will be looking for an immediate reaction from his players this time around. De Boer has been criticised in the past for failing to properly organise a defence and that was again the issue last weekend. He is attempting to implement a whole new system at Palace and the players look to be struggling to get on board with it so far. Wilfried Zaha picked up an injury against Huddersfield Town and is expected to be out for a month. Find more information about Bet365 here.
- Crystal Palace have won on each of their last three visits to Anfield by an aggregate score line of 7-1, can they continue that run on Saturday?
- Will Christian Benteke find the net against his old club? The Belgian striker scored twice at Anfield last season for Palace.
- Can Liverpool improve defensively? They have struggled at the back in their opening two games and Klopp will be desperate to see an improvement against Palace on Saturday.
Crystal Palace looked terrible last weekend against Huddersfield Town and despite their impressive recent performances against Liverpool, I fancy Liverpool to win this one quite comfortably in the end
Betting Tips (Bet365)
Liverpool are favourites for this one and the odds of 1/3 on them to win reflect this. If you fancy Crystal Palace to pick up an unlikely fourth consecutive victory at Anfield they are available at the price of 15/2, whilst the draw is 4/1. I think there will be goals in this one, so Liverpool and BTTS at 15/8 looks tempting to me. In terms of the goal scorer market, Christian Benteke is 17/2 to open the scoring against his former club and 12/5 to score at anytime. Benteke has always done well at Anfield and with Liverpool struggling to defend aerial balls, that looks like a solid bet. More details about Ladbrokes.
